Recording a spindump

On macOS, in case one of our applications is freezing or not responding, we may ask you record a spindump. A spindump is a report that captures what an application is doing at a specific moment. This can possibly help us to see which process is causing the freezing.

Here are the steps to record a spindump:

  1. Open Activity Monitor. Find and open Activity Monitor located in /Applications/Utilities/.
  2. Launch Beam and find it in the application list. I recommend using the Search. Ideally Beam is unresponsive/frozen at this point.
  3. Capture Spindump. Select Beam, click on the three dots in a circle icon at the top of the window, and choose “Spindump” from the menu.
  4. Wait for Completion. Allow the spindump to run until it finishes. This could take a few minutes.
  5. Save the Report. When the spindump is complete, a report will appear. Go to the File menu, select “Save…”, and save the report to a convenient location.
  6. Send the Report. Once saved, please send the file to us.
