Hardware and power

There are several things you have to care about when using high-powered and heavy equipment. Without covering this extensively, here is a list of things you may have to be aware of.

Power and mechanics

  • Maximum load of 16 and 32 Ampere power groups.
  • Preventing electricity generator overloading (at festivals mainly).
  • 3000 Watt strobes and peak currents.
  • Voltage peaks in unbalanced power circuits.
  • Separating computer power from the lighting grid's power.
  • 110 vs 220 Voltt sockets. Most fixtures support both, but it can't hurt to check the manuals.
  • Power socket types.
  • Handling smoke machines, foggers versus hazers.
  • Interchangable gobos and color wheels.

Rigging

  • Making a power and DMX cable routing plan.
  • Maximum weight support of rigs.
  • Safety regulations when lifting heavy fixtures.
  • Safety regulations when climbing high rigs.
  • Safety regulations when using stage lifts (Genies).
  • Epilepsy warnings.
